Boiler Scrappage Scheme
You may remember in the Pre-Budget Report of December 2009 an announcement by the Government to introduce a 'boiler scrappage scheme' for the replacement of Band G** boilers.
This scheme is now being launched and will be called the 'Greener Boiler Initiative'. It allows consumers with qualifying Band G boilers to be able to claim back £400 of the installation costs of a new high efficiency boiler. The scheme will be administered by the Energy Saving Trust, which will process the applications and approve the money back claims.
This scheme is remarkably simple and straightforward. The diagram opposite illustrates the process the consumer will need to go through to make a successful claim. It is available to all homeowners and those in privately rented properties in England only and is applicable to all Band G or equivalent natural gas, LPG and oil-fired boilers.

The scheme is limited and applications cannot be claimed in conjunction with Government funding. However this initiative may be claimed in addition to the Low Carbon Buildings Programme grant for renewable technology. The Warm Front Scheme will form part of the grant, so eligible applicants will be able to claim £400 instead of the usual £300.

A rough guide to band G boilers is as follows; Any back boiler & fire, any boiler that has a permanent pilot light, any open flue boiler, Potterton Neataheat, Kingfisher, Tattler, Glowworm Hideaway, Fuelsaver, Ultimate, Spacesaver, KFB. Obviously the list is quite large and to be quite honest I'd rather have another Turkey sandwich than list over a 1000 different G rated model boilers.
